Meet the Committee!
The committee members detailed below were elected to the committee unopposed at the 2007 AGM under the LMUG constitution.
To contact the committee directly, visit the members page.
Chairman
Tim Simmons
Secretary
Elizabeth Shaw - Elizabeth is a retired NHS consultant.
She equipped her department with Amstrads in the 1980s but did not manage to master the skills herself. On retirement, a friend suggested she buy a Mac and she has not mastered it either. Her
Treasurer and Membership
Chas Wilshere - Chas was introduced to Macs in 1994
In 1994 after 18 years with BT he left and became self employed and needed a computer. A company he
Chas joined LMUG in 1995 at an apple Expo and enjoys being a member. He became Membership Secretary about 3 years ago. It does take up quite a bit of his time but it's all for a good cause!
Soundbyte Editors
Laurie North has been the
main editor of SoundByte for the last few years, and
a member for 4 year. He has been a Mac user since the
90’s when he started using his wife’s Macintosh
Classic whilst in Italy. He progressed through a
Power PC (6100/60) to a G4 733. He is currently using
a Mac Mini 1.42 with a 19 inch Neovo screen. Never a
Windows PC user he can use them - but only just and
with very little enthusiasm.
His peripherals include a Epson Perfection 1660 Photo scanner, Epson Stylus R300 printer, Seagate dye sublimation photo printer, a couple of external drives, Elgato TV, Terratec audiotape to computer converter, an old Zip drive, an iSight (use with iChat) and a VOIP phone used with Skype to keep in
contact with his family across the world.
AppleWorks is the favourite software for general
DTP, but he also uses Tex-Edit Plus, InDesign is
for SoundByte and Word for communicating with PC
users. For conversion of audio to digital sound he
uses Amadeus. For photographs iPhoto is very good
for general correction, otherwise Photoshop.
He used to be a bad pianist and an only slightly better clarinet player. Foreign travel looms large in his life for family reasons!. As a retired lecturer in microbiology he still keeps up his interest in science.

Maurice Baker
Webmaster
Chris Mahon - discovered the Macintosh at University
He has been a mac user since 1995 from Classic II to iMac Core 2 Duo! A regular browser of blogs,
Mailing List Manager
Paul Foster - is a long standing (if
intermittent!) member of LMUG.
He has been a member this time around since 2004 (I think), but was previously a member in the early to mid 1990s, when he used a Mac IIsi in his student days. He remembers helping with Soundbyte when it had to be stuffed into envelopes
(800 copies!) and taken to the post office near Charing Cross. Now nearly everybody gets their copy on line and only 20 have to be snail mailed each month. At home he has a G4 Cube with iSub and a MacBook. In the top of the wardrobe there are two iMac G3s, both non runners which need some time to fix. Also he confesses to having a Black Dell tower, on which he hopes to give Linux a try (when he gets around to it). For work, he is supplied with a Toshiba Tecra with Windows XP, Office 2003 Adobe Creative Suite & MicroStation CAD software, though he often finds it easier to take the MacBook when out of the office. At home he uses Macs for organising music and photos, and keeping in touch with the world. He also support his parents’ iMac G5.
At work he uses Windows XP and MicroStation CAD software for designing retail developments, amongst a team of architects. He runs OS X 10.3 & 10.4 with (mainly) iTunes, iPhoto, Mail, Safari & Firefox. He have been using iTunes as a jukebox since the day version 1.0 was made available for download, but so far resisted the temptation to buy an iPod. There is Windows Vista on the MacBook using BootCamp, and he reports that it does improve on previous versions of Windows, but still fails to impress, particularly with the annoying way that security is implemented.

Technical Officer
Andy joined LMUG in 2005. Although working on Windows
& Linux platforms most of the time he
perfers to use Macs for development where
possible because of their tools & reliability.
When not programing some fiendish new system he
uses his Mac for Home Media & DJ Production.
Andy presents our AppleCore session which delves a
bit deeper into the more technical aspects of how
Macs & IT in general work
Committee Members
Rodney Walshaw is a retired
geologist who worked in developing countries for most
of his career. He was introduced to Macs when he was
made Editor of several geological periodicals and was
soon hooked on DTP and the process of making-up pages
for publication.
QuarkXPress is his favourite software but he also uses InDesign plus, of course, Illustrator and Photoshop. He tends to stick with hardware long after others have moved on and stayed with his lime-green iMac and OS9 for many years. He has only recently moved on to OSX. He joined LMUG in 1996, was SoundByte Editor for almost six years up to 2003. He was Chairman of LMUG 2002–05 before being made Webmaster.
Toby Leighton is one of our younger members. Having never known a time in his life without computers
he is extremely well schooled in all the important techniques that makes him a very useful person to know. He is particularly good at solving and advising on ADSL Broadband matters.
Toby’s first Mac was a three year old Powermac 9600 and now has a Powerbook G4 15”, a MacBook
Pro would be nice, but it is perfectly
capable of doing absolutely everything he requires.
He can administer all the servers needed at work
using it, and the UNIX guts of the OS makes it a
fantastic network troubleshooting tool. His full
time work is a Network Administrator and he needs
to know the full workings of Windows PC systems.
He uses DVD Studio Pro; Elgato Eye TV; Adobe Lightroom and also finds time to play computer games. He is a keen photographer with a Nikon DSLR D70 and his favourite subject for photography is Battersea Power Station.
