LMUG Q&A July 2009
Q. Has anyone had experience of Quark 8 yet?
A. No
Q. What do these symbols mean? Danger symbol and zigzag symbol?
A. Control-click on the symbol to see what the issue is.
Q. I am upgrading from a G4 (Panther) to an iMac. I have CS2, will it work on the iMac? Also I started with InDesign 1 (floppies), can I transfer it over to the iMac without re-installing it?
A. CS2 works fine on Leopard but you need to re-install everything. Install the upgrade from the CD and you should be prompted to enter both serials numbers for CS2 and Indesign 1.
Q. Will iPhone OS3 break earlier apps? Will some be incompatible? Should I jailbreak now or wait?
A. Apple has asked developers to ensure that ALL applications in the iTunes store are compatible with OS3. Check on online for jailbreaking.
Q. When I sync my iPod it sucks everything in. Can I control this?
A. Yes, in iTunes, select your iPod and click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos."

Q. How do I dispose of dead computers. What is the best way?
A. Apple will recycle their own equipment. Take it to an Apple Store. Or you may be able to take it to your local refuse tip. Hit your hard drive with a hammer to wipe it/destroy it, if you have anything on there that's important.

Q. I have a Lacie Rugged drive that says it has been ejected improperly. Do I use Disk Utility to fix it.
A. Lacie drives sometimes 'go off'. Try Tech Tool Pro; Disk Warrior; Disk Utility.
Q. My PowerBook G4 won't sleep. If I leave it is shuts down instead.
A. Check your System Preference (Energy Saver). Try resetting the Power Management Unit. If you have a machine affected by the battery recalls, you might be able to wrangle a free battery from Apple.
