14in MacBook Pro release date

The 14in MacBook Pro has been rumoured for some time. At one point TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had suggested that the 14in MacBook Pro would be here by the end of 2020, but he later changed his forecast – suggesting that Apple’s plans had been pushed back to 2021 because it wanted to use mini-LED displays in the new models and there were problems with supply due to the Coronavirus pandemic. – info

Apple announced a new privacy information

For product pages on the App Store. This is the beginning of an innovative new program to help customers have more transparency and understanding about what data apps may gather about them. This new program creates an easy-to-understand system for all apps, where the information is self-reported by the developer. The Apple Car saga

Dates back around 2007. Apple execs had tossed around the idea of an electric car, but decided instead to focus all resources to the development of a new kind of smart cell phone called the iPhone. Seen more white cars lately?

It’s the Apple Effect! More white, pearl white, ice white and opalescent white cars are on the roads. That’s because Apple has made white a cool colour. Wondering whether you need antivirus software to protect your Mac? macOS is more secure than Windows, but you’d be wise to look carefully at your security options because Macs can get viruses. We explain why you (probably) need antivirus software for your Mac and what to do if you think you have a Mac virus -info

What is a VPN ?

A virtual private network (VPN) gives you online privacy and anonymity by creating a private network from a public internet connection. VPNs mask your internet protocol (IP) address so your online actions are virtually untraceable. Most important, VPN services establish secure and encrypted connections to provide greater privacy than even a secured Wi-Fi hotspot.-info

You can both send and receive email from an email alias. With iCloud Mail, you can have up to three active email aliases -info

Password Safety

Every password you use can be thought of as a needle hiding in a haystack. Checking your downloads

– Analyse suspicious files and URLs to detect types of malware, automatically share them with the security community -info

VeraCrypt is one of the most popular security tools, providing you with enterprise-grade encryption for important data. The system is quite easy to use, and all it really does is add encrypted passwords to your data and partitions -info

Bye bye Flash?

Since Adobe will no longer be supporting Flash Player after 31 December 2020 and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning 12 January 2021, Adobe strongly recommends all users immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems.
Some users may continue to see reminders from Adobe to uninstall Flash Player from their system.  See below for more details on how to uninstall Flash Player. – info

Why was flash popular?

“You could make a full three-minute animation with multiple characters, backgrounds, sounds and music less than 2 megabytes (MB) and viewable from within the browser,” -info

Thoughts on Flash! – By Steve Jobs

I wanted to jot down some of our thoughts on Adobe’s Flash products so that customers and critics may better understand why we do not allow Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads. Adobe has characterized our decision as being primarily business driven – they say we want to protect our App Store – but in reality it is based on technology issues. Adobe claims that we are a closed system, and that Flash is open, but in fact the opposite is true. Let me explain… -info

What the Hack?

GOOGLE has suffered a potential cyber attack from Russia or China after Gmail and YouTube went down according to a security expert. Will Geddes told talkRADIO’s Mike Graham that there is limited knowledge surrounding what has caused the outrages on Google platforms. However, Mr Geddes stated that it seems the initial attack targeted the United States. -info

Executives from multiple U.S. electric utilities convened one a phone call to discuss a critical vulnerability in software made by SolarWinds, the federal contractor at the heart of an apparent cyber-espionage operation. The SolarWinds compromise has reportedly led to the breaches of multiple U.S. federal agencies, including the departments of Treasury and Homeland Security. The affected software is widely used in the electricity, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors, and the process of assessing some organisations’ exposure to the bug has only just started.-info

Apple has stopped providing standalone updater versions

Starting with macOS Big Sur 11.0. 1 — but is still providing them for Catalina and Mojave as recently as December 16. … In macOS Big Sur, that download has not been made available for any of the updates. -info

Apple offers its macOS updates through the Software Update pane in System Preferences, but it usually also lets users download the same updates as standalone installation packages, made available on Apple’s downloads website.

However, as noted by Mr. Macintosh and shared by The Eclectic Light Company, Apple hasn’t released a standalone updater for macOS 11.1 or 11.0.1, despite providing standalone packages for macOS Catalina and Mojave security updates on December 16. Standalone packages are useful for administrators who want to update multiple Macs with the same 12GB download, especially given that delta and combo packages come in smaller sizes since they include only the files needed for that particular update. According to Mr. Macintosh, however, Apple is advising users who need standalone updaters to contact them in an “official capacity,” although it’s not exactly clear what that means.

Tech Support Questions –

I would estimate that I’ve never used more than 10-15 typefaces. Would it make sense to remove or deactivate all the other typefaces until or unless I ever need them? Would this save memory or storage? Is there a way to remove or deactivate unused typefaces, and is this something that people do, or just some whacky idea?

( Support link ) Font-Management in OSX Best Practices Guide – if you create documents or graphics or do any of the 1,001 other things that designers do on computers—you probably have hundreds or even thousands of fonts. Where’s my .Jpg and .txt files gone on Big Sur?

–   You use Finder windows to organise and access almost everything on your Mac – info

Each document that you have on your Mac is associated with a default application which macOS uses to open the file whenever you double-click on its icon in Finder. Sometimes you may have a legitimate reason for changing which app your Mac automatically launches when you open a common file type – info

Where are the photos imported into iPhoto/Photos app on my Mac?

When you first use Photos, you create a new library. New photos and items that you add to Photos are stored in the Photos library. This library automatically becomes your System Photo Library, which Photos accesses each time you open the app. Only your System Photo Library can receive photos transferred by iCloud Photos. By default, the System Photo Library is located in the Pictures folder on your Mac -info
