? STOP PRESS!

New Meeting Dates

Our next two meeting dates have changed due to two special events.

September Meeting: Apple Special Event

Please note that our meeting next week is on Tuesday not Monday

LMUG welcomes Mac Users from London and beyond to a free screening of Apple’s “By Innovation Only” keynote address on Tuesday September 10. Bring yourself, friends and enjoy a beer or food after work while watching live from California. We’ll have a super tech related raffle prize to win!

We will meet in the basement of the Sir John Balcombe, Marylebone as usual.

October Meeting: Newsbyte Extra

Please note that our October meeting is on Tuesday October 1, not the 14th

Join us from 7 pm on October 1 for our interactive Newsbyte Extra presentation.

We will be reviewing the news from Apple’s special event last month where they are expected to have announced new iPhones and much more.

We will be joined by a special guest, the President of the Washington Apple Pi User group – our sister Mac User Group from Washington DC, USA!

Let us know you comments and opinions. Don’t forget if you have any problem with your Mac, iPad, or iPhone, ask us and we shall try to answer it.

As usual we will have a great raffle prize!

News

Speaking of Apple User Groups, we were joined last month by the South Essex Apple Link – The Essex Apple User Group. We had, I hope, a great time going over the recent Apple News and reviewing the excellent pictures from our Photo Walk the previous month.

Congratulations to Alastair Whitehouse for the winning Photo…

Apple Issues Emergency Updates for All Its Operating Systems

When Apple updated its operating systems last month (see “Apple Releases macOS 10.14.6, iOS 12.4, watchOS 5.3, tvOS 12.4, and More,” 22 July 2019), the company’s engineers accidentally reintroduced a previously patched vulnerability that allowed jailbreaking. To close that vulnerability and prevent device jailbreaking, Apple has now released a series of emergency updates: macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental UpdateiOS 12.4.1watchOS 5.3.1, and tvOS 12.4.1.

High Sierra no longer in the App Store

Our Technical Editor points out that High Sierra is no longer available in the App Store. This version of Mac OS might be important to have access to if you need to run programs that will not work on Mac OS Mojave. (Ask about this at our next meeting if you want to know more.

Handily, Apple still has High Sierra available to download outside of the App Store here.

Every Apple Store in London

Is there a better way to spend the day that trying to visit every Apple Store in London? Er…..did you know how many Apple Stores there are in London? More than you think and it might come up in the Christmas Quiz!

Check out the Mac & Forth video below featuring Karl Madden, who used to attend LMUG meetings in times past.

Thoughts on Sharing Vacation Photos

Were you lucky to get a nice summer holiday? What are you going to do with the photos you took? I know its a constant challenge for me. I use Instagram these days, but that’s quite fiddly. Enjoy this TidBits article of maybe better options from Apple Devices.

Thanks to Eoin O’Cleirigh

As Chairman, I offer LMUG’s thanks to Eoin O’Cleirigh who has stepped back from the Committee. Eoin was LMUG’s previous technical officer and pulled LMUG into the smartphone age developing the LMUG app which I hope many members have on their iPhones pinging when we approach a LMUG venue past or present. The Committee was delighted to present Eoin with a farewell gift on his recent visit to London.
